The VIP speaker at this Group Tour, Gene Baur, (Co-Founder of Farm Sanctuary) was an absolute delight. Gene is one of the true pioneers of the animal rights movement…especially farmed animals. He is the Co-Founder of Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York, but they also have a Southern California location.

Farm Sanctuary is one of the first farmed animal sanctuaries in the world. Their accomplishments in the fight seeking rights for farmed animals is impressive and unparalleled. Gene is a long-time Vegan and hero for ALL animals. We were honored to welcome Gene to LFAS.

Gene opened the tour with a talk about the Animal Ag industry and how it is causing suffering to billions of defenseless animals every year. This cruel and filthy industry is one of the leading causes of the climate crisis and environmental destruction. Consuming the “products” of the Animal Ag industry is also dramatically harming human health.

Our tour guests were highly interested in Gene’s insights and his experiences. And, our animals who chose to get “up close and personal” with our guests (because it’s their choice) had a wonderful time meeting new human friends.  

One of the highlights of the day was the “Pumpkin Toss” to our pigs! Everyone (human and piggies) loved it! We also opened up a large paddock we had been “resting” so it could grow more grass. Our cows, horses, goats and sheep were very enthusiastic about getting out on that grass! It was fun to see!
